October 21-23 is just around the corner, and we’ve got a lot in store to celebrate the 2022 Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR). Following up on our Save the Date announcement earlier this month, we’re sharing all the details you need to plan an amazing weekend in Boston filled with rowing and your Hydrow crew.

Tickets now available: Row with us at Community Rowing Inc.

We’re thrilled to offer Hydrow Members free on-the-water rowing sessions at our partner boathouse Community Rowing Inc. (CRI) on Saturday, October 22nd from 9 am to 3 pm. Get your tickets here!

During these hour-long sessions you’ll join fellow Hydrow Members in a stable 12-person barge as CRI coaches teach you the basics of sweep rowing. All fitness levels are welcome on these fun and casual rows—no prior on the water experience is required!

Spots will fill quickly, so we encourage you to get your tickets ASAP. Please note that the CRI boathouse is at a separate location, about 2.5 miles away, from the Head of the Charles racecourse and Attager Row: Rowing and Fitness Expo. Check out our detailed FAQ below for more information on where to arrive and what to expect!

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting tickets

Where can I get a ticket for a rowing session?

Get tickets here! Spots will fill quickly so we encourage you to get tickets as soon as possible. No tickets are required to attend the Head of the Charles Regatta Rowing and Fitness Expo, which is a free community event.

Is there a wait list?

Yes! If no tickets for our rowing sessions are available, you can sign up for the waitlist through Eventbrite. In the event of a cancellation Eventbrite will automatically notify you via email based on your position in the waitlist.

Are the rowing sessions for Members only?

At this time rowing sessions are reserved exclusively for Hydrow Members age 13 and older. You can bring a friend or family member with you on the day of the event to accompany you to CRI, but only Hydrow Members who have tickets will be permitted to row.

What if I want to row with specific friends or a community group?

If you’d like to row with friends or your community group, you will need to get tickets for the same time slot. There is a place for you to share the name of your friend(s) or community group on the ticket page. Sessions are an hour long, and barges will head out every half hour.

Getting there

Where are things located?

Member rowing sessions will take place at Community Rowing Inc. Boathouse located at 20 Nonantum Rd, Brighton, MA 02135.

The Attager Row: Rowing and Fitness expo on the banks of the Charles River, located near 992 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, MA.

How should I get there?

To arrive at the Head of the Charles Regatta or Community Rowing Inc. we recommend public transportation, when possible, or ride sharing apps and taxis. You should expect the area and surrounding roads to be congested, so plan your travel accordingly. This means allowing extra time to accommodate for traffic, extended wait times for ride-sharing apps, and extremely limited public parking.

The Dr. Paul Dudley White Bike Path runs along the river through the entire event all the way up to CRI and beyond. The distance between Attager Row: Rowing and Fitness Expo and CRI is about 2.5 miles or a 45 minute walk.

Rowing sessions

What skill-level are the rowing sessions?

These are fun and casual rows that can accommodate all fitness levels. No previous on-the-water experience is required!

How early should I arrive at my rowing session?

We recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before your scheduled rowing session. This will give you adequate time to check-in, use the bathroom, and get settled before you’re on the water!

Will Hydrow Athletes row with us?

Rowing sessions will be led by professional CRI coaches. The sessions are a great opportunity to meet fellow Hydrow Members and experience the beauty of the Charles River! Hydrow Athletes who are not racing in the Regatta will be stopping by CRI as their schedule allows, so you might bump into them.

Are the rowing sessions rain or shine?

The rowing sessions are rain or shine with the exception of weather conditions that would pose a safety risk. In the event of cancellation, you will be notified via email.

What should I wear?

You should wear athletic clothes and athletic sneakers that you feel comfortable working out in. We recommend wearing long pants in the boat, and dressing in layers so you can stay comfortable as you warm up and cool down.

What should I bring with me?

We recommend bringing water, a snack, sunglasses, and layers. CRI has locker rooms available for use but you are responsible for bringing your own lock if you’d like to secure your belongings while you are on the water.

Will there be water or bathrooms available?

Yes, there are water fountains and bathrooms available at CRI.

Is there a weight limit?

There is no weight limit for this on-the-water experience.
