Hydrow’s Improve Your 2K Program: Build Toward Your Best

You’ve been putting in the work. Starting Aug. 25, it’s time to see what it can do.
We’re thrilled to introduce Improve Your 2K, a four-week program built around one simple, measurable goal: helping you row a faster 2,000 meters.
Filmed on the celebrated rowing waters of Avis, Portugal, the program brings you to a training ground used by some of the world’s best rowers as you work toward a benchmark that’s entirely your own. You’ll set your starting point, train alongside our Athletes, and return four weeks later ready to see how far you’ve come.
The 2K is for everyone
The 2,000-meter row is one of the most recognizable benchmarks in rowing. For competitive rowers, it’s a test of speed, endurance, strategy, and mental grit. But you don’t have to be an Olympian—or even think of yourself as a competitive rower—to take it on.
“Improve your 2K is for everyone,” Aisyah said. “ It's a great way to give yourself something to work towards.”
Your first session will be simply you and 2,000 meters. That row will establish your baseline: a snapshot of where you are today. Whether it takes six minutes, 10 minutes, or somewhere in between, your time isn’t about how you stack up against anyone else. It gives you something much more useful: your own number to beat.
From there, you’ll spend four weeks training with Mike, Dani, Aisyah, Mac, Buffy, and James through six progressive, 20-minute Drive workouts. Each one focuses on a different part of the 2K—from finding and holding your pace to building endurance, developing speed, and staying mentally strong when the work gets tough.
Then, you’ll return to where you started: 2,000 meters. Retest, compare your time to your baseline, and see what four weeks of focused training can do.
“Improve your 2K was created with progress in mind,” Dani said. “The more focus and determination that you can bring to these workouts, the happier you'll be with your results!”
Eight sessions. Four weeks. One finish line.
This program builds progressively, with two workouts each week and recovery time in between:
Week 1: Find your starting point
Begin with your baseline 2K, then join Mike to get familiar with race pace and build confidence at higher intensities.
Week 2: Build your engine
Dani and Aisyah focus on aerobic endurance, pacing, and learning how to sustain your effort without giving too much away too soon.
Week 3: Get race-ready
Mac turns up the intensity with speed-endurance work, while Buffy helps you understand the different phases of a 2K and how to approach each one.
Week 4: Master the mental game
James takes you through the full 2K experience with visualization and race-intensity work, preparing you for the moments when your body wants to back off. Then it’s time to retest and see how far you’ve come.
Once the program launches, complete all eight sessions to earn the Improve Your 2K badge.
“Remember, it's not about comparing yourself to others,” Aisyah said. “It's about finding out what you can do today and seeing what you're capable of improving. Whatever your starting point, come join the fun and challenge and let's improve your 2K together!
More than a number
There’s a reason the 2K has endured as a benchmark in rowing. It asks you to do more than go fast.
At some point, it gets uncomfortable. Your body tells you to slow down, and you have to decide how you’ll respond. Training for that moment—learning to pace yourself, stay composed, and keep moving when things get hard—is part of what makes the challenge worthwhile.
And those lessons don’t have to stay on the rower.
Your 2K isn’t about someone else’s split or someone else’s finish time. It’s about setting a benchmark, putting in the work, and discovering what happens when you come back four weeks later and try again.
Improve Your 2K launches Aug. 25. Your first 2,000 meters tells you where you are—and the next four weeks show you what you’re capable of.
Get ready to row!
