May 30th, 2022 is Memorial Day. While many celebrate this national holiday as the unofficial start of summer with feasts and festivities, it’s more importantly a day to remember, honor, and commemorate those who have lost their lives serving in the U.S. military. It is a solemn day paying homage to their bravery and gives us all the opportunity to express gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice.

Memorial Day for me is always a time to remember the sacrifices rooted in the belief in our country and what makes it great. When thinking about my Grandfather General William Joseph Crumm that died serving I’m overwhelmed with pride. When I see his pictures or listen to his story or hear recordings of his voice, that pride for where I came from makes me want to stand up taller and live in a meaningful way,” says James. “Miles on the water have always been a place for reflection and appreciation.
