Start Strong With Hydrow: A Better Way to Begin This Labor Day

Getting a new Hydrow is exciting, but it can also come with a lot of questions: Where should you start? How often should you row? Which workouts make sense for your goals? And how should rowing fit alongside strength, mobility, running, cycling, or the other ways you already like to move?
Those are exactly the kinds of questions I love helping people answer, which is why I’m excited to be part of Hydrow’s Start Strong Set for our Labor Day Event.
For a limited time, qualifying Hydrow purchases include a 30-minute one-on-one kickoff with me, a personalized four-week workout plan, and an On The Mat cross-training kit with resistance bands, a yoga mat, and yoga blocks.
In this blog, I’ll share a little about my own journey with rowing, what we’ll cover in your one-on-one kickoff, and how I’ll help you build a four-week plan that fits your life.
A little about me
I’ve been rowing for more than three decades and coaching for more than 25 years, but I didn’t grow up thinking of myself as an athlete. I discovered rowing during my senior year of high school and kept coming back to it as an adult. Over time, that grew into competing at the Masters level, winning gold at the FISA Masters World Championships and numerous USRowing Masters National Championships, and building a career around helping other people feel stronger and more confident in the way they move.
Along the way, I’ve also become a NASM-certified personal trainer and earned additional certifications in indoor rowing, cycling, nutrition, life coaching, and triathlon coaching. But what matters most to me isn’t the list of credentials—it’s being able to use that experience to help people find an approach to fitness that feels realistic for their life.
That perspective shapes the way I coach. I know fitness has to fit around work, family, changing schedules, and all the other things competing for your time. My goal isn’t to give you the most complicated or demanding plan possible. It’s to help you build a routine that makes sense for your goals and that you can actually see yourself sticking with.
What we'll do together
During your 30-minute kickoff, we’ll talk about what brought you to Hydrow, what you want to work toward, and what your current routine looks like. You might be completely new to rowing, returning to exercise after some time away, or already training regularly and looking for a new way to build cardio or complement what you’re doing.
We can also talk through rowing form, workout selection, and how to use Hydrow’s library in a way that feels less overwhelming. Everyone comes to Hydrow from a different starting point. You might already have a regular routine and be looking for the best way to add rowing into the mix, or you might be getting back into exercise for the first time in a while. Wherever you’re starting, we’ll look at your goals, your fitness level, and what your week actually looks like to help Hydrow fit naturally into your routine.
From there, I’ll create a four-week workout plan tailored to your goals and fitness level. The idea is to give you enough structure that you’re not opening Hydrow every day wondering what to do, while still leaving room for your schedule and the other activities you enjoy.
More than just rowing
Your Start Strong Set also includes Hydrow’s On The Mat Kit, which gives you tools to add strength, mobility, stretching, and recovery into your routine. I’m a big believer that a well-rounded fitness routine should include more than one type of movement, and rowing can work really well alongside all of those things.
Some days that may mean pairing a row with strength. Other days, mobility or recovery may be the better choice. Part of building a sustainable routine is learning how to choose what your body needs rather than feeling like every workout has to be harder than the last.
Start with a plan that fits you
The first few weeks with any new routine are a chance to learn what works. You don’t need to know everything about rowing when your Hydrow arrives, and you don’t need a perfect schedule figured out in advance.
That’s what I’m here to help with.
Together, we’ll create a starting point that feels clear, realistic, and personal to you so you can spend less time wondering what you should be doing and more time enjoying the process of getting stronger.
If you’ve been thinking about bringing Hydrow home, our Labor Day Event is a great time to start. The Start Strong Set will help you begin with personalized coaching, a four-week plan, and the tools to build a routine that works for you.
