What is a Hydrow?
The Hydrow rower is a rowing machine designed to simulate the feeling of rowing on water. It offers an immersive fitness experience with live and on-demand workouts filmed in real-world locations. There are two models: Hydrow Wave and Hydrow Pro, each varying in size, screen features, and sound quality.
All models use a patented electromagnetic resistance system and are compatible with Bluetooth devices. A Hydrow membership also includes access to a vast library of workouts led by professional Athletes and filmed around the world.

How much is the Hydrow membership?
The Hydrow membership costs $44 a month (plus taxes) and features everything you need to make the most of your Hydrow experience, including:

Does Hydrow work without a membership?
Those wondering if you need a subscription for Hydrow should know that membership is an integral part of the Hydrow experience and should not be considered an optional part of purchasing. Everything that makes Hydrow unique—including all of our premium workout content and connected fitness elements—will require an active Hydrow membership.
Hydrow rowers without an active membership will operate in Just Row mode and have very limited functionality. Any Hydrow that is being used without an active membership can be used only in Just Row mode. This limited mode allows you to adjust your drag/resistance settings during workouts and displays on-screen rowing metrics during your workouts but will not record your stats and achievements after your workouts are done. Just Row mode also includes Hydrow 101 videos and introductory material and allows for Bluetooth connection with heart rate monitors only.
Features that are not available in Just Row mode include:
All live and recorded workout videos
All music and workout audio (no music can be played without membership)
Any stored records of your progress
Any saved stats after a workout
Weekly Racing challenges with Hydrow's online community
Ability to appear to other users on the leaderboard
Streaming workouts via our Hydrow mobile app
If you do choose to just row on Hydrow without a subscription, do know that you can easily create a subscription later by clicking the “Activate” button on your Hydrow’s home screen.
Hydrow size, specifications, and storage questions
How does Hydrow work?
Hydrow's patented electromagnetic resistance mechanism is designed to make rowing feel smooth and efficient. Hydrow rowers must be plugged in and powered on to use the electromagnetic resistance mechanism. While the resistance mechanism doesn't require an internet connection, workouts and screens do. Hydrow recommends using a strong Wi-Fi or ethernet connection.
How big are Hydrow rowing machines?
It’s important to understand how long Hydrow rowers are to determine whether they’ll fit comfortably into your space at home.
Hydrow Pro dimensions:

Is Hydrow easy to assemble?
Worried your Hydrow will be hard to assemble? Don’t be! Most Hydrow rowing machines can be assembled in just 20 to 30 minutes with two people.
In general, assembling your Hydrow requires placing your Hydrow in a dry, flat spot with good Wi-Fi and a nearby power outlet. Unbox and assemble the rower carefully, following detailed instructions for attaching the feet and monitor.
Once assembled, connect to power, follow on-screen prompts to connect to the internet, and update your software before logging in to your Hydrow account and starting your workout.

Is Hydrow loud?
Hydrow rowing machines are known for being far quieter than other models on the market. All Hydrow models utilize software-driven electromagnetic resistance, which is significantly quieter than alternative methods that use a noisy air fan or water tank.
While Hydrow is not a silent rowing experience, it is extremely quiet compared to more traditional technologies, giving you the ability to row at any hour without disturbing your household or neighbors.
Does Hydrow fold up?
Hydrow rowers are only partially collapsable. On most models, the neck that holds the screen can be collapsed to stow the screen down against the body.
How to store Hydrow
By purchasing the Hydrow Upright Pro Storage Kit or the Hydrow Wave Vertical Anchor, you’ll be able to safely store your Hydrow upright, helping you to save space between workouts. Once the kit is installed correctly in your home, the upright storage process should take no more than 30 seconds.
Does the Hydrow rower use water?
No, the Hydrow rowing machine does not use water. Instead, Hydrow uses software-driven electromagnetic resistance to create an on-the-water feel, removing the noise and upkeep commonly associated with water-resistance rowing machines.
Hydrow app questions
Does Hydrow have an app?
Yes! Available on the App Store and Google Play, the Hydrow app gives members access to thousands of rowing, yoga, Pilates, strength training, and circuit training workouts on the go. You can also use the app to track your workout summaries, achievements, and challenges, as well as share the love and sync your workout session summaries to Strava and Apple Health.
Can I use the Hydrow app without the machine?
Yes, you can use the Hydrow app without a Hydrow rowing machine with our Hydrow Digital Basic Membership. This app-only membership provides access to our library of on-demand workout content and basic access to the Hydrow community for around $19.99 a month plus tax. Visit your App Store for current pricing on Digital Basic membership.
Keep in mind that a Hydrow Digital Basic Membership is limited. You will only be able to view live and on-demand content on your iOS or Android device, you can only make one user profile, and the app will not track your progress stats or milestones.

What heart rate monitors does Hydrow work with?

How to use the Hydrow rower
To use a Hydrow, start by securing your feet on the footplates and grabbing the handle with a firm but relaxed grip. The rowing stroke consists of four phases: the Catch (knees bent, arms extended), the Drive (push with legs, engage core), the Finish (pull handle to the chest), and the Recovery (return to the starting position). Maintain a fluid motion throughout and focus on your form to maximize efficiency.

How long are Hydrow workouts?
Hydrow workouts range in length from five minutes to 60 minutes, though most of our workouts are around 20 minutes long. We also recommend bookending your workouts with a five-minute warm-up and cool-down.
What are Hydrow milestones?
At certain points in your rowing journey, Hydrow offers badges and prizes for your accomplishments, such as when you hit 100K, 250K, 500K, and 750K meters and when you join the Million Meters Club (MMC).

What is drag on Hydrow?
The resistance that Hydrow provides with each stroke, or the drag setting, is important to set appropriately for your rowing workout. The default resistance on Hydrow is set at 104 to best simulate the experience of rowing on water for most people. We strongly recommend starting at that setting, especially if you are new to rowing.
Can you just row on Hydrow?
If you’re looking to use your Hydrow to row for a set distance instead of a time interval, you can choose from nine fixed-meter distances, ranging from 250 to 10,000 meters. As part of these Distance rows, you can enjoy the sights and sounds of beautiful waterways without the guidance of a Hydrow Athlete.
Does Hydrow have games?
Hydrow workouts include games such as races, team-based competitions, and leaderboards. However, you will not find video games specifically in the Hydrow workout library.

If you're not satisfied with your Hydrow experience, simply contact Hydrow Member Services within 30 days of delivery, and we'll arrange a free pickup of your Hydrow rower.

How long does Hydrow take to ship?
For Hydrow Pro orders placed directly with Hydrow or with Amazon, you can expect your rowing machine to arrive in roughly two to three weeks. Hydrow Wave orders will typically be delivered within 5–7 business days. The delivery time frame for your individual order may differ depending on your date of purchase. Questions about Hydrow’s screen
Does the Hydrow screen swivel?
If you’re looking to take advantage of Hydrow’s many On the Mat workouts, you’ll want to buy a rowing machine whose screen can swivel so you can take your workouts off your machine. This feature differs depending on which Hydrow model you choose:
Hydrow Pro: The Hydrow Pro monitor pivots 15 degrees vertically and 25 degrees horizontally to provide the perfect viewing angle for rowing and on-the-mat workouts.
Hydrow Wave: The Hydrow Wave's 16" monitor is fixed and cannot be adjusted horizontally or vertically. However, the rotational alignment can be adjusted.
Can you watch TV or movies on the Hydrow rower?
No, it is not possible to stream other media services like Netflix or watch television on the Hydrow screen. There are also no HDMI video inputs to connect other equipment, such as a cable box or DVD player.
Does Hydrow have a camera?
No, no model of Hydrow that is currently being sold includes a camera.
